Years ago, there wasn't a problem with rubbish because things like plastic and cans hadn't been invented. There wasn't so much packaging protecting the things that people bought, either. But now we use so much plastic and packaging. The trouble is that not everything can be recycled or rot away(腐烂). You used to be able to get your money on glass bottles back when you took them back to the shop. Now they are either collected from your house by someone or you can take them to a bottle bank.

The fact that paper can be recycled is great, but remember paper is made from trees, which are important to the environment. The rainforests have been slowly disappearing. We need them not just because they help with the Earth. They are important just like the other plants that give us oxygen(氧气). They are also home to many animals that depend on them for their living on Earth.

The best waste includes dead leaves, carrot tops and onion skins, which can help make fertile soil. This in turn will help the plants and vegetables grow by giving them much needed food. So if

put such compost(堆肥)in your garden, you will help the environment and your plants will love you for it.

Dropping rubbish is bad for the environment, so think before you drop it. When rivers and seas are polluted by waste, we not only steal their beauty but also do great harm to them.

Each one of us can make a difference and each one of us should do something good to the environment.

28. What can we learn from the first paragraph?

A. So far, plastic has been a very good invention around the world. B. Glass bottles become more expensive than before.

C. With the appearance of new inventions, environmental problems come up. D. Without plastic, there won't be environmental problems in the world. 29. What can compost probably do according to the third paragraph? A. Give people more good waste. B. Pollute soil and make it less fertile. C. Help make the garden cleaner. D. Help improve the growth of plants. 30. What does the underlined word \"fertile\" mean? A.贫清的 B.荒芜的 C.肥沃的 D.茂盛的 31. What's the author's purpose of writing this passage?

A. To encourage us to protect the environment. B. To explain the reasons for less packaging. C. To show us how to live a better life. D. To tell us some new technologies.

D

Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying. \"Friends are God's way of taking care of us. \" But how do you find real friendship and keep it?

The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friend. Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed and take care of it to make it grow.

First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints and do his or her best to help. To make a friend, you cannot be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives.

But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights. What should you do when

you have a fight with your friends? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn't want to talk, you could write a letter.

There are several steps to be friends again: Tell him or her how you are feeling; say what your friend has done wrong; explain why you did this or that. Remember that friendship is the most important thing in your life.

32. What should a good friend be like?

A. Kind and patient. B. Lovely and cool. C. Have lots of money. D. Have good looks.

33. According to the text, you can your friend after a fight. A. buy a big gift for B. never say a word to C. have dinner with D. write a letter to 34. How many steps are needed to he friends again? A. One. A. Two. C. Three. D. Four. 35. Which is the best title for the text?

A. Teenagers and Friendship B. Good Friends Around You C. The Trouble of Growing up D. Finding and Keeping Friends 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

What is the difference between happy people and unhappy people? 36 Read the following list of things that HAPPY people do differently from UNHAPPY people and you will know.

Well, I can tell you for sure that those people who are really happy, FEAR less and LOVE a lot more. They see each moment, each challenge, each person as an opportunity to discover more about themselves and the world around them. 37

Happy people understand that you can't really change a situation by resisting(反抗)it. But they can feel better by understanding that there might be a reason for its existence(存在) 38 But rather, they ask themselves questions like: What can I learn from this? How can I make this better? They always seem to be pleasant and hopeful no matter what happens to them.

They do the things they do because of the meaning it brings into their lives and because they get a sense of purpose by doing so.

39 They care more about living a life full of meaning rather than, what in our modern society we would call, living a successful life. The fact here is that most of the time they get both, success and meaning, just because they choose to focus on doing the things they love the most.

40 They make sure that their actions bring meaning and happiness in the lives of many. They look for ways to give and to share the best of themselves with the world and to make other people happy.

A. They have an ideal living and a balanced life. B. What are the things that these people do differently?

C. They are kind to themselves and others and they understand the power of love. D. The things happy people do are not for themselves, but for the good of others. E. They are ready to embrace whatever lies in front of them.

F. They understand that \"Doing what you love is the most important for living a full life\".
