A Day in the Life of an 8th Grader
Hey guys! I'm gonna tell you all about a typical day in my crazy life as an 8th grade middle schooler. Get ready, 'cause it's a wild ride!
It all starts at 6:30am when my annoying little sister barges into my room and jumps on my bed, screaming \"Wake up, sleepyhead! Time for school!\" I groan and pull the covers over my head, but she just keeps on bouncing until I finally give in. After shoving her out of my room, I zombie-walk to the bathroom to shower and brush my teeth and hair.
By 7:15 I'm downstairs stuffing my face with a big bowl of sugary cereal. My mom is always nagging me about eating a healthier breakfast, but I don't have time for that nonsense! I've got more important things on my mind - like whether Brittany is going to wear that cute new top today that she was telling me about.
The bus arrives at 7:30 on the dot every morning. I grab my super heavy backpack loaded with a million textbooks and run out the door, making it just in time. Phew! The bus driver gives me a look as I plop down next to my BFF Sarah. We immediately launch into a million-mile-an-hour conversation about all the latest drama - who likes who, what happened at soccer practice, how Mrs. Thompson's math class is pure torture, etc.
Finally we pull up to West Valley Middle School at 8am. The next half hour is a total madhouse as everyone scrambles to get to their lockers and first period on time. I shove my backpack into my locker and quickly change into my P.E. clothes and sneakers since I've got gym first thing. Dodgeball day - sweet! Though getting pegged in the head by a dodgeball hurts like crazy.
Next up is English, which I'm actually pretty good at. The teacher drones on and on about subjects and verbs but I'm just counting down the minutes until lunchtime. Food is pretty much all I can focus on during third period history. Is it just me or do classes get way more boring as the day goes on?
Freedom at last! The lunch bell rings at 11:30 and the mad dash to the cafeteria begins. You don't want to be the last one in line unless you want to eat the mystery meat and canned pears
again. Yuck! Making sure to save a spot for Sarah, I get my tray loaded up with a greasy slice of pizza, fries, a cookie and some juice. After somehow managing to find seats together, we dig in and continue gossiping from the bus.
Recess is definitely the best part of the day. Just get to run around outside with your friends and not think about anything. A bunch of us usually play basketball or just hang out under the big oak tree. Why can't the whole day be like recess?
Sadly, the afternoon classes start back up at 1pm. I have math, which is torture as usual. Why do we need to learn about polynomials again? No matter how many times Mrs. Peterson explains it, that stuff just doesn't make any sense! At least science is better since we get to do experiments occasionally. Finally, at 3pm the final bell rings and we're free for the day! Such a relief to drop off those heavy textbooks and get my normal clothes back on. Maybe Sarah and I can hang out or I'll go home and veg out watching Netflix and eating junk food. That's a pretty typical day in my middle school life. Crazy drama, stress over grades, recess shenanigans with my besties, and constantly counting down the hours till I can escape! I know high school is supposedly even crazier so I'm gonna enjoy these
last few months of 8th grade while I still can. Thanks for reading my rambling story! A middle schooler's work is never done...

My Summer Vacation
Yay, summer vacation was finally here! I was so excited for three whole months of no school, no homework, and no waking up early. My parents had planned a big road trip for us to go see all my aunts, uncles and cousins who live far away. I couldn't wait!
We started off by driving to Aunt Emily and Uncle Bob's house in Maine. They live right near the ocean in a little fishing town. As soon as we got there, my cousins Sally and Sammy wanted to go down to the beach. The beaches in Maine are rocky with lots of tide pools to explore instead of just sandy like back home. We had so much fun looking under the rocks and finding little crabs, starfish, and other cool sea creatures! Sally's favorite was the bright green sea anemone that was stuck to a rock. I liked the spiky urchins best.
After spending a few days in Maine, we got back in the car to drive all the way down to Florida to see Grandma and Grandpa. The drive took forever! But we made it a little game to count how
many boredom mottos like \"Are we there yet?\" and different license plates from all the states we could spot out the window. I'm pretty sure I won since I'm the most observant one.
Finally we made it to Florida and it was amazing! Everything was so bright and colorful. Grandma and Grandpa live in a community right on the beach, so we could walk out the back door and be playing in the ocean in just a couple minutes. The beach was perfect for swimming since the water was warm and the sand was soft. One day we went on a boat tour to spot some dolphins and they were swimming and jumping all around just a few feet away! On another day, we rented jet skis and took turns riding around at full speed which was a total rush.
After a week of eating Grandma's amazing cooking and soaking up the sun, it was time to head out to California to see Aunt Grace, Uncle Mike, and cousins Jessica and Jacob. This drive was even longer, taking almost four full days! We zig-zagged across the entire country, seeing the landscapes slowly change from flat farms to huge rocky mountains to dry deserts. When we finally made it to California, it was a whole new world.
Aunt Grace and Uncle Mike live right outside of Los Angeles in a pretty neighborhood up in the hills. As soon as we arrived, Jacob and Jessica begged us to go see the Hollywood Walk of
Fame. We strolled up and down the sidewalks completely amazed by all the handprints and footprints from movie stars. I even got my picture taken pretending to put my feet into John Wayne's giant footprints! The next day, Jessica took me shopping on Rodeo Drive which is a super fancy street with all the top designer stores. We didn't actually buy anything since it costs more than our family makes in a year, but it was cool just to window shop for a little bit.
On the last day, we went to Universal Studios which was hands-down the best place ever! They had this Jurassic Park ride where you got to go right through the middle of walking, roaring dinosaurs. I've never been so scared and excited all at once! And the new Harry Potter World area was like being transported into the actual movies with all the characters walking around and even a fire-breathing dragon on top of Gringotts Bank. I spent way too much of my souvenir money buying myself a sorting hat and wand.
After two awesome weeks in LA, we had to start the long treks back home to Ohio. I kept having to pinch myself to make sure it wasn't all just some amazing dream! We stopped for a night in New Mexico to see the White Sands National Monument on the way. We ran up and down the pure white sand dunes until
we could barely walk anymore. It was like being on a beach, but in the middle of a desert!
Finally we made it back home after logging over 6,000 miles in our car's odometer. My butt was completely numb from all that sitting, but I didn't even care one bit. That was hands-down the best summer vacation I've ever had! I made so many incredible memories, saw amazing sights, and spent quality time with all my favorite family members. I just wish it could have lasted forever before having to go back to school. Maybe next year we can take another big road trip somewhere new!

My Amazing Summer Vacation
This summer was the best ever! I got to go on a really cool trip with my family. We went all the way to California for two whole weeks. I was so excited when my parents told me we were going. I'd never been to the West Coast before.
The first couple days we spent in Los Angeles. That's a huge city with so many interesting things to see and do. We went to the Santa Monica Pier and rode on the big ferris wheel and other rides. I even went on a roller coaster! We also saw the famous
Hollywood Walk of Fame with all the stars on the sidewalk. It felt kind of weird walking where so many celebrities have walked. After LA, we drove up the coast to San Francisco. I loved that city! It's really hilly with lots of cute Victorian houses painted bright colors. We took a ferry out to the infamous Alcatraz prison island in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. That place gave me the creeps a little bit learning about all the notorious criminals who were locked up there back in the day. We also walked across the Golden Gate Bridge which was an incredible experience. My absolute favorite part though was our trip to Yosemite National Park. The scenery there is just breathtaking with those massive granite cliffs and waterfalls everywhere you look. We went hiking on several trails and saw tons of wildlife like deer and bears (from a safe distance thank goodness!). One night we went stargazing after dark and I've never seen so many stars in the night sky before. It was magical.
I have so many amazing memories from this trip that I'll never forget. I took hundreds of photos and bought a bunch of souvenirs to remember it by. My friends are probably going to be so jealous when I show them my pictures and tell them all about my awesome summer vacation to California. I'm already
counting down the days until next summer so my family can go on another epic adventure!

My Awesome Summer Vacation!
Hey guys! I'm so excited to tell you all about my awesome summer vacation! It was the best summer ever and I had so much fun. First, let me tell you about the epic road trip my family took.
We piled into our minivan with all our suitcases and snacks and hit the road. My little brother and I were so hyped as we headed out on our big adventure. The first few hours were pretty boring as we drove through our same old state. But then we crossed the border into a new state and everything looked different and exciting!
We saw THE BIGGEST truck stop I've ever seen. My dad said they have hundreds of parking spots just for the big rigs. We had to stop there to eat and go to the bathroom. My mind was blown by how massive the place was. They had a food court, a huge store, even a movie theater and a dentist office! Who gets their teeth cleaned at a truck stop?? Weird!
After that, the drive got really pretty as we went through mountains and forests. I spotted a black bear on the side of the road! Mom said they're pretty dangerous, so we didn't stop. But it was still super cool to see one in the wild like that.
Finally after driving forever, we made it to the grand hotel resort place we were staying at. It was right on the beach and let me tell you, the ocean is NO JOKE! Those waves were gigantic. The first day, I got completely soaked and knocked over by a big wave. It was terrifying but then I realized how fun it was too. The rest of the week, I spent so much time in that ocean.
My parents had gotten us all these new boogie boards for riding the waves. By the end of the week, me and my brother were pros! We could ride those waves all the way into the shallow shore without wiping out. The resort had these awesome water parks too with huge waterslides and a lazy river. We went there just about every day after beaching it in the morning. But I have to say, as fun as all that was, MY FAVORITE part was the horseback riding tour we did one day. We went out into the forests and climbed up into the mountains, all while riding these beautiful horses. The views from up there were just breathtaking. We could see forever across valleys and hills. Our
guide taught us all about the wildlife and plants in the area too. I decided then and there that I want to learn to be a real cowgirl! One night, we got to witness something I'll never forget - a sea turtle nest hatching! You're probably like \"huuuuh?\" See, these giant sea turtles come up onto the beach at night and dig holes to lay their eggs in the sand. Then a couple months later, all the tiny baby turtles hatch out together and scurry their way into the ocean in one adorable wave. We got to watch them do that in person! The resort had an event where they let people see it happen while a marine biologist explained everything. It was so amazing yet so sad because only a few of them will actually survive from each nest. Wildlife is crazy!
Sadly, the week came to an end way too fast. We had to pack up and make the long drive back home. This time I really got to appreciate all the different landscapes as we crossed prairies, forests, cities, you name it. Suddenly, it hit me how massive and diverse my country really is. There's so much world to explore out there beyond my little hometown!
Well, that's the basic rundown of my wonderful family road trip this summer. We got home utterly exhausted yet full of incredible memories to last a lifetime. I already can't wait for next summer's adventure! Maybe we'll get to go somewhere crazy
like Alaska orHawaii next time. A kid can dream, right? I feel so lucky to have parents that really know how to show us the world. So how about you? What did you get up to this summer? I want to hear all about your warm-weather shenanigans too! Writing this has made me nostalgic for those sunny, carefree days. Wasn't it the BEST? I already can't wait for summer 2025 - let the countdown begin! Whatever you did, I hope you made as many amazing memories as I did. That's what it's all about, right? See you next year, summer!

Hi there! My name is Emily and I'm in 8th grade. My teacher Mrs. Jones asked us to write an 80 word essay for Unit 3 of our English book. At first I was like \"Oh no, an essay? That's so boring!\" But then I remembered how much I actually enjoy writing when I get into it.
So here's my essay sample about my favorite hobby - drawing and painting. I love art because it allows me to express my creativity and feelings in a visual way. Whenever I'm stressed or upset, I can pick up a pencil or paintbrush and get totally absorbed in making something beautiful. It's like meditation for me.
I've been drawing since I was really little. My parents have kept allmychildhood artwork - it's crazy to look back and see how my skills have developed over the years. These days, I'm getting more interested in different art styles and techniques. I've taken some classes at our local art center to learn about things like shading, perspective, color theory and different painting mediums.
My favorite subject to draw is animals, especially my dog Rufus. That silly pup has posed for countless sketches and paintings! I've done realistic pencil drawings of him, cartoon sketches, even an abstract watercolor painting inspired by his fluffy fur. My room is pretty much a gallery of Rufus artwork at this point. My friends think I'm obsessed but I don't care! Speaking of friends, a few of my artsy buddies and I have been talking about starting an art club at school. There used to be one a few years ago but it kind of fizzled out. We think it would be awesome to have a dedicated space where we can work on projects, share ideas and maybe put on exhibits of our work. The art teacher seems interested in being the faculty sponsor so we're going to look into making it official next year. In the meantime, I've been practicing my skills by entering contests and doing commission work for family friends. Just
basic stuff like drawing their pets or making custom birthday cards. But it allows me to make a little pocket money while doing something I love. Who knows, maybe I'll end up being a professional artist someday? I could see myself illustrating children's books or even becoming an animator. Though I'll probably need to work on backgrounds and human figures more if I want to pursue that.
For now though, art is just a incredibly fulfilling hobby that helps me de-stress and get in touch with my creative side. Sometimes I'll sketch for hours without even realizing how much time has gone by. I'll just get in a \"zone\" where it's just me, my pencil and the paper. It's amazing how therapeutic and meditative the simple act of drawing can be.
Well, there you have it - my 80 word essay sample turned 2000 word passion project! I could probably keep rambling about art for pages and pages. But I'll spare you and just leave it at that. Let me know if you need any more overly-detailed essays from an 8th grade perspective. I'm your girl!

My Summer Vacation Adventures
Hooray, summer vacation was finally here! No more classes, homework, or waking up super early. I was free to sleep in, play video games all day, and hang out with my friends. This was gonna be the best summer ever!
The first week was awesome. I stayed up late every night watching movies and playing Fortnite with my buddies online. We'd laugh and joke around until like 3am. My mom didn't even yell at me for it since it was vacation time. I ate so many bags of chips and drank tons of soda. Living the dream!
After that first week though, I started to get a little bored just sitting around the house all day. My parents were still at work, so I couldn't really go anywhere fun. All my friends were going on vacations with their families to places like Disneyland, Hawaii, and even Europe! That made me super jealous.
\"How come we never go anywhere cool like that?\" I whined to my mom one night at dinner.
She gave me one of those mom looks and said, \"We don't have money for big fancy vacations, you know that. But we can do some fun day trips if you want.\"
Well, it wasn't a trip to Hawaii, but I figured it was better than nothing. So the next week, we did a bunch of little adventures
around our state. One day we went to the beach and played frisbee in the waves. Another day we hiked up a mountain (which was hard work, let me tell you!). We visited some museums, saw a minor league baseball game, and even went to this crazy amazing waterpark called Raging Waters.
I'll admit, it was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Sure, we didn't get to go anywhere too far away, but we made a lot of great memories. My favorite was definitely the waterpark – I went down this one waterslide like a billion times. The hike was cool too, even though I got super tired. And the baseball game rocked, especially when I caught a foul ball! My mom said it would be a good memory to keep.
After our week of mini-vacations, my friends started coming back from their big trips. I was excited to see them again, but they just wouldn't stop bragging about how amazing their fancy vacations were. It got pretty annoying to be honest.
\"Hey Phil, did you hear how I went snorkeling and saw real live sea turtles in Hawaii?\" Jake boasted.
\"That's cool and all, but did you guys check out the brand new Splash Canyon waterslide at Raging Waters?\" I bragged back. \"It's totally insane!\"
Jake just rolled his eyes. \"Get real, Phil. Stupid waterparks don't compare to my Hawaiian beach vacation.\"
I started to get a little mad. Just because my family couldn't afford to go anywhere super far didn't mean we didn't do fun stuff too! But before I could snap at Jake, my other friend Samantha came over.
\"You guys should stop arguing over whose vacation was better,\" she said. \"The important thing is we all made great memories, right?\"
I thought about it and realized she was right. Even though my family's vacation wasn't super fancy, we had an awesome time together. Who cares if we didn't go snorkeling with sea turtles? We made our own cool memories going on little adventures around our state.
\"Yeah, you're right Sam,\" I said, smiling. \"This was one of the best summer vacations ever!\"
So while I didn't get to go anywhere too exotic, I still had a total blast this summer vacation. I made so many fun memories with my family and friends that I'll never forget. And you know what? That's all that really matters in the end anyway. This was definitely one summer break to remember!
