China has the largest population in the world. But according to a careful American study, in 2050, India’s population will reach 1.6 billion. China will be second with 1.4 billion. America will be third with 0.42 billion, and Indonesia will be fourth.

In order to solve the population problem, our government one-child policy before. As time goes by, people not only see its advantages but also disadvantages.

From 2016, two-child policy is put into effect. In my opinion, two-child policy is good. First of all, two-child policy is the gift for some only-child. For some families, maybe the parents are only-child and they also can have only-child. Besides the loneliness of their child, when their child grows up and they grow older, their child marries an only-child girl, the burden on their child and his wife is too heavy. Their child and his wife have to take care of two couples. Usually it’s a little difficult for a young couple to look after an old couple. But if their parents have two children, they can share the burden of taking care of their parents. It would be much better. Secondly, two-child policy can guarantee(保证)the number of Chinese population.

All in all, one-child policy has been out of date. And two-child policy is needed and necessary. It can solve the problems of nowadays and the future.

Andrew, a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the open land near his home. The land was wet and forested, and made a home for birds, other animals and many different plants.

It made the perfect place for him to study and explore nature. He had seen some great birds and other animals. These local birds and animals were not easy to find in the area as most of it was developed with homes and apartment blocks. He also found special native flowers.

Suddenly it was announced that the “empty” land would be “improved” by building a very large number of apartments on it.

When he heard about the new apartment blocks, he was not happy. He was worried that the land was too wet and that polluted water would run from the apartments into the water supply that served the people of that area. And the plants and animals would die or go away.

Andrew wrote down clearly all the research he had done about the area, and how the apartment blocks would affect the local environment. He sent letters to members of government and television journalists. He also met a local society and a biologist there. He also spoke with his neighbors, even the whole community to get them to work with him to prevent the apartments going ahead.

Although he was only 12 years old, he had the courage and wisdom of a person much older. Andrew’s teachers described him as gentle, shy and motivated. They also admired how much he knew about local animals and plants, and the environment. Each day after school, Andrew went, door-to-door, to collect the signatures of people who did not want the apartment blocks to be built.

Soil and ground-water tests were done on the place. As Andrew had said, the tests showed that if apartments were built on that place, the polluted water would get into the community’s drinking water. It was decided that the apartment blocks would not be built. The land would remain a safe place for the birds, animals and plants that belonged there. Andrew won many awards for his brave work to prevent the apartments being built, and help save his environment. 61. What lived in the wet and forested land? A. Andrew and his neighbors. B.
