At the time, I would go out in the evening with my parents. But this time I had borrowed a bicycle from a friend of mine. I didn’t know why, but once I was on my own bicycle, a kind of free feeling flooded through me. The faster I rode, the faster I wanted to go! Far ahead, I rode as if my life depended on it, head down, hands grasping the hand-bars. I meant to get to Jinghai Bar as fast as I could...

Oh! My hands! Don’t come any closer... Don’t touch me! That poor doctor just couldn’t get my gloves off. Each time he took a step towards me, I broke into painful shouting. After some time, my mother arrived at the hospital, her face as white as a sheet, and gave me a hug, only then did the doctor begin to stitch (缝合) my head wound, not only did he merrily cut off a long lock of my hair, but used no anaesthetic (麻药) either! When we hear the words “college students”, we usually think of a young person between 18 and 22 years old. But in the U.S.A today, a college student often is much older. In fact, educators say in the next few years colleges and universities may have more older part-time students than traditional full-time younger students.

Educators report a big increase in the number of Americans who attend college and university classes in the evening or at night or weekends. Most of them are older than 25 years old and more have full-time or part-time jobs. Many are in their thirties or forties.

Why are so many people deciding to spend their time and money in order to continue their education? Most are doing it because they believe more education will help them to get a better job. Some are industrial workers whose factories have closed. They are learning new skills to prepare for other kinds of work. Some of the part-time students are not pleased with the jobs they have. They are studying for new ones. Some have retired (退休) and are looking for new kinds of work. Two of every three of the students older than 35 are women. Many of them are returning to school after years of staying at home to care for children.

Are older students good students? Most teachers say yes. They say older students really want to learn. They ask difficult questions and are not pleased with simple answers. They often get high grades.

60. It's said that in the next few years ____.

Tea drinking was an important part of Chinese life, but nowhere in the world did people drink tea with more ceremony(礼节) than in Japan. There, a strict ritual(仪式) was set down in the fifteenth century by the first great tea master, Shuko. This tea ceremony is still performed today. Guests must wash their hands and faces and remove their shoes before entering the tearoom through a low doorway that forces them to bend the neck and appear modest. As the guests sit cross-legged, the host places a spoonful of powdered tea into a special bowl, adds boiling water, and then stirs(搅动) it with a bamboo brush. Although in early tea ceremonies, everyone drank from the same bowl, it later became the practice for the host to serve the tea in each one’s bowl. The guests drink the tea slowly and talk until they have finished drinking. Then they are expected to throw back their heads and take the final drop with a loud sound to show how good the tea is. As the ceremony comes to an end, the guests admire the empty serving bowl for its beauty. The host washes the cups and the ceremony ends. They do not certainly have the formal tea ceremony every time they drink tea in Japan, but the tea is always served with much care and politeness. 64. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Chinese people drink tea with less ceremony than Japanese people do. B. Japanese people cross their legs every time they drink tea. C. Chinese people don’t have their own tea culture.

D. Japanese hosts usually admire their tea serving bowls before the guests.

① Remove your shoes. ② Bend your neck. ③ Wash your hands and face ④ Enter the tearoom through a low doorway. A. ①②③④ B. ③①④② C. ①③④② D. ③①②④ 66. It is suggested that tea drinking ____.

A. is still an important part of Chinese life

B. is no longer considered as important in Japan C. is still an important part of Japanese life

D. now takes place in Japan without ceremony 67. What’s the writer’s main purpose to write the passage?

A. To compare the tea ceremony between the Chinese and the Japanese. B. To explain why tea drinking is an important part of Japanese life. C. To show how tea drinking developed in Japan.

D. To explain the formal tea drinking ceremony in Japan.

M: Health experts say washing your hands reduces the spread of viruses and other organisms that cause diseases. This advice may sound simple. However, experts say a lot of people do not follow it. A recent study has found that many Americans fail to wash their hands after using public toilets. About thirty percent of the people leave public restrooms without stopping to wash their hands.

In the study, researchers asked one thousand adults how often they washed their hands. The researchers observed almost eight thousand people at public toilets in five major American cities. Results of the study were compared to a similar study done in 1996. More than ninety-five percent of Americans questioned say they always wash their hands after using public restrooms. However, the study has found that only sixty-seven percent of them actually do so. The study has also found that American men are less likely than women to wash their hands after using a public restroom.
