摘要：This invention provides cell encapsulating devices capable of maintaining largenumbers of viable cells. The devices are comprised of an inert, substantially cell-freecore, a permeable membrane and a zone for maintaining cells. The permeable membranesurrounds the core such that the zone of cells is bounded by the core and the permeablemembrane. The devices of the invention are suitable for implantation into an individual inneed of treatment and are capable of supplying therapeutic substances to suchindividuals.
