In today’s world we are always surrounded (包围) by technology. It’s true to say that technology makes our lives easier. However, increasingly scientists are saying that we need to give ourselves a

break—otherwise we put ourselves at risk of developing hundreds of health problems. Over the summer the days are longer, sunnier and free from school. With all this free time, why not put it to good use and do something that has nothing to do with technology?

To start with, you could learn a new skill. There are hundreds of possibilities: cooking, learning a musical instrument or a new sport. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try out that recipe (食谱), but

haven’t had time? Perhaps you like learning how to knit, so you can have a new sweater for the autumn. You could use your free time to learn something new—and perhaps it’ll lead to an exciting chance in the future.

If you just fancy relaxing, why not go to a beach? Take along your favourite book and relax on the sand, or go for a stroll along the coastline. If you don’t live near a beach, you could go to your local park. Why not take along a picnic, or try and know about some of the local wildlife?

Little things, like challenging yourself to complete a crossword or a Sudoku, are a great place to start. You could even get involved in the latest craze: adult colouring books! Colouring is surprisingly therapeutic (治疗的), and it can be a nice way to get away from the stress of modern life!

You might surprise yourself and find a hidden talent within you; you might make new friends along the way. Next time you find yourself aimlessly channel-changing, have a think at what else you could spend your time doing.

It is believed in some ways that the daughter is father's lover. But my experience has taught me in a different way. For a long time, my father has been a very vague figure(模糊形象)to me. He was a man of few words, tall but slim and nothing else.

When I was in primary school, my father was never there to pick me up, and he never came to any 教育资源

of my parent-teacher meetings. He was always busy doing projects. I remember when I was in middle school and my head was badly hurt in a PE class. During my operation, my father was nowhere to be found. This hurt me most. At that moment, I considered my father as a cold-blooded man who did not care about me at all.

But things seemed different at my high school graduation ceremony where I was chosen to represent my class and give a speech. My father, once again, told me he had a business trip in a place outside the city and would be unable to show up(露面)“Don't come. I will be nervous if I see you.” I told him.

I remember my speech went smoothly. After the ceremony was over and I was about to leave, I suddenly noticed a familiar(熟悉的)looking man sitting in a corner of the hall. It was my father! I was so surprised that I rushed to him with tears running down my face. “Well done.” he said. His eyes were also filled with tears.

Later, I found out that my father had managed to finish his work by staying up late, and he drove for eight hours to get back. He had been sitting in the corner because he didn't want me to see him. My father remembered every word in my speech.

For much of my life, I described my father was a cold-blooded man who only cared about his work. But when I thought deeply about this, it was obviously(明显地)not true. At my graduation ceremony, I could feel my father's deep love. The fact is that seeing is not believing, and seeing may not be the fact if we don't perceive(感知)the world with our hearts and minds. There's no doubt that life doesn't lack(缺少)love, but sometimes our eyes have trouble seeing it. 6. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.The writer's father was in the hospital during her operation.

B.The writer's father attended her high school graduation ceremony.

C.The writer's father sometimes picked her up when she was in primary school.

D.The writer's father went to parent-teacher meetings when she was in primary school. 7. What’s the meaning of the underlined word? A. 平滑地 B. 失败地 C. 顺利地 D.尴尬地

8. The writer rushed to her father with tears running down her face mainly because___________. A.she gave a speech successfully B.the graduation ceremony was over C.she was so nervous that she couldn't help crying D.she was touched to find her father cared about her

9. What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to(指代)?

A.That my father was always doing projects. B.That my father was a cold-blooded man. C.That my father sat in the corner of the hall. D.That my father's eyes were filled with tears. 10. What's the best title of the passage? A.My busy father B.Life is full of love C.Seeing is not believing D.A wonderful speech 六、阅读下列短文,回答问题(No more than 8 words)

Do you know that a student can produce up to 240 pounds of school waste and lots of waste gas during a term? This includes transportation, food, paper, pens, pencils and so on.

Transportation

Many parents like driving their kids to school every day. We all know waste gas from cars is a main cause of air pollution. If parents who live in a neighborhood can take turns to drive their kids to school each day, that’ll be better. Another way of going green is to walk to school if students live near it.

Food

It is surprising that only one primary school could produce up to 19,000 pounds of lunch waste each year. That is only one school. One way to help take care of the environment is to stop using plastic bags. There are all kinds of environmental boxes for students to put their food in.

Paper, pens and pencils

A lot of paper is thrown away by American students. They throw away about 1.6 billion pens every year. They waste many pens and the chemicals of them are bad for the environment. Much more pencils are thrown away than pens. Pencils are made of trees, so if more pencils are thrown away, more trees will be cut down. So students should reuse paper, pens and pencils instead of throwing them away.

Backpacks

As fashion comes and goes, almost every kid needs a new backpack every year. They can save a lot of money and materials if they reuse the same schoolbags. 教育资源

Have you had a headache during a test? Have you ever been so worried about something that you have a headache or even can’t sleep at night? If so, then you know what stress is. Stress is what you feel when you are worried about something. This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad. You may feel angry, sad, scared, or afraid——all of which can give you a stomachache or a headache.

However, there are different kinds of stress. Some kinds of stress are good and others are bad. Good stress might happen when you’re called to answer questions in class or when you have to give a speech. This kind of stress can help you to get things better done. For example, you may do a better job on your test if the stress pushes you to prepare better before the test.

On the other hand, bad stress can happen if the stress lasts too long. You may not feel well if your parents are fighting, if a family member is sick, if you’re having problems at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy every day. That kind of stress isn’t going to help you. And it can actually make you sick.

The best way to fight the stress is to have a balanced life. Make sure you keep your SELF in mind: Sleep, Exercise, Leisure(休闲), and Food. If you get enough sleep and eat properly, and if you exercise and leave time for fun, you’ll probably feel less stressed.
