首先，更新源，是需要管理员权限的，所以命令行下，应该用sudo命令，加在apt-get命令之前。
其次，看你给出的提示，报错应该是VBox的代理没有设对。关闭VBox中开设的这个虚拟机，看一下虚拟机的网络设定，一般VBox缺省的网络设置，就支持虚拟机与Host共享网络。不用再在Host上再加载代理软件。
第三，换一个比较快的国内的源吧。比如下面这个网易的，我一直在用，速度不错。

赋根用户权限
sudo apt-get update
要是还不行的话，就更新一下源，在ubuntu的官网上有ubuntu版本对应的源

Ubuntu什么版本？版本太老的话官方不支持的，原来的源不存在了，所以更新不了。
